The Sugarcreek Borough Police Department has presented the D.A.R.E. (Drug Awareness Resistance Education) program since 1996. Officer Frank Heller is a certified D.A.R.E. instuctor.
This project is conducted in conjunction with the Valley Grove School District. Officer Darin Baker recently graduated from the D.A.R.E. school and will instruct sixth grade students in the 2007 school term.
The Eddie Eagle program is a project of the department that is presented to elementary school students. It is a gun safety program. The National Rifle Association provided a grant to buy the Eddie Eagle mascot costume, which is used in presenting the program to students. The program message is "Stop! Don't Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult."
The Department further has "PC the Talking Police Car", which was purchased for the department in 1984, by the Sugarcreek Crime Watch members, as an educational tool.
